good morning … 1984 [UPDATE]

I just read an article which frightened me deep inside. The Austrian government plans to install so called “network bridges” to mirror all the data from the service providers. This would mean that every single word you send is recorded and stored and could be used by the government. I guess that I don’t have to explain how bad these news are …

What a brave new world … :(

Some more information about how the government could achieve to get private information from “terror suspects” can be found in this article on heise.de:
Spekulationen um Backdoor in Skype

I’m not using Skype anyway, but I hope this article wakes up Skype users.
DON’T USE SKYPE!

Imho it is not a question of what the will do, but when. The plans exists since a long time…

we’ve to sit at home and wait for it :/
i call this scenario “stasi 2.0 reloaded”

    but what can we do?
there are two ways to to fight against it/be anonym:

the first (not so legal) way:
    take your neighbors wlan :P

    and the second way:
fight against it, like the ccc did it in germany!

but who is interested in this issue & has the time and money for this way?

This seems a bit to calculated to me that this came to public, like a intenional mistake. In the case that this speculation of me might be true, the question is, what are they really hiding? Maybe they can’t log the skype traffic, they just want to force us to switch to other software they are able to spy on ;)
What do they try to accomplish? Thats not the way of getting terrorism under control. In the case you don’t count part-time-potheads who like to show off with their smoking-skills on the internet as terrorists.
I wouldn’t be suprised if all this spying is just for customer studies.

btw: I just realised that I love writing in english. So, if anyone of you feels the need to correct my probably bad english, feel free to do that :)

Writing in English rocks big time!

Nice comment. Maybe it’s really just for getting money. Nevertheless, I don’t want my traffic to be stored by anyone. I know that this is a quite unrealistic target, but hey: I want to believe :)
