linux 2.6.28 stable on the eee [UPDATE 2]

hi guys,

I completely missed the release of the 2.6.28 kernel last week because of all that Christmas bullshit out there (thank bob it’s over now).

As far as I can see, the new kernel has support for every device/chip built in the eeePc of the first generation (my model \o/). A few weeks ago I already wrote that I was very excited about this release.

I can’t wait to get home and give it a try. I’ll give you an update as soon as I installed and configured everything.

UPDATE 1:
I compiled and configured everything now to fit my needs but I still can’t get the webcam working :/. I’m still searching around and maybe I’ll find a solution later. So far wireless networking and the ethernet interface are working fine. Except the webcam, everything comes straight from the kernel. (and maybe the webcam too, I just have to figure it out somehow …)

UPDATE 2:
After so research I figured out that the uvcvideo-modules still doesn’t support the webcam of my eee :( . Well … I don’t need it anyway …

The newer models seem to be very nice. I would recommend buying a version with a solid-state disk and an atom-cpu.

I’m very happy with my first generation Eee ( 701 ) but I guess that the newer ones are nice as well :P

yeah, the newer ones are very nice as I have seen.
But some test articles say that the display is very dark … this one seems also to be very nice: http://geizhals.at/a373828.html

SSD, 1024×600 res, Intel Atom CPU, 1gig RAM :)
